Mitee tasks Rivers govt on development for Ogoni people

The formerPresident of theMovement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP ), Mr Ledum Mitee, has urged the Rivers State government to embark on programmes that would have a positive and direct bearing on the people of the area.Mitee, who officially stepped down as the MOSOP president on January 4, 2012, made the call recently in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of the state.He said that he had served his people long enough and gave way for someone else to serve.'I did not step aside because I have lost my vision for my people but because I have served long enough and needed someone else to serve.'Mitee said that he had sacrificed his youth life to the Ogoni struggle and challenged youths in the area to toe the path of sacrifice and love for their ethnic group.Commenting on the banana plantation to be established in the area by the state government, Mitee criticised the planned acquisition of land by the government for the project.'Ogoni are subsistence farmers. How can they feed if their only agricultural asset (land) is unlawfully taken from them by the government'' he asked.
