Kaduna residents adopt Arabian dress to fight harmattan

As the cold weatherassociated withthe harmattan season bites hard, Kaduna residents have adopted Arabian costumes to reduce its effect.It was learnt that the residents, mainly men, now wear veils pupolarly known as Hirami to cover their faces due to the change in weather.The veil, worn in different ways, is popular among youths and elderly persons, irrespective of their cultural background.NAN reported that veil merchants at the Sheik Abubakar Gummi Central Market, Kaduna, were making brisk business.Malam Suraj Abdulazeez, one of the merchants, said the weather had led to increased demand for the commodity, but noted that the use of the veil, designed in different forms and colours, originated from Arab nations and had been on for decades.He said the prices ranged between N200 and N2,000, adding that before the season he was selling 20 pieces a day.'I am now selling 80 or more pieces a day due to the increase in demand.'Alhaji Saleh Audu, a customer, said 'the veil warms the body and protects the skin from the harmattan harsh wind.
