Abaji LG boss tasks residents on peaceful coexistence

The Chairman ofAbaji Area Councilin the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad, has called for the peaceful coexistence among residents of the area.This, he said, would strengthen and sustain the harmonious relationship among the various groups in the area.Yahaya, who was speaking at Abaji town hall meeting, expressed the commitment of his administration to protect life and property in the area.He said the meeting was summoned to further sensitise the inhabitants on the need to live in line with the teachings and doctrines of the 'various religions' which called for peace and tolerance.'Those virtues which we have inherited from our forefathers that have made us to live together peacefully irrespective of our tribes, culture and religion will not be compromised,' he said.Yahaya condemned the recent killing of innocent people and burning of churches in some parts of the country, saying the acts were unIslamic.He said that Islam was a religion of peace that taught harmonious relationships among adherents of other religions, noting that the closest religion to Islam in human existence was Christianity.Yahaya cautioned residents of the area especially Muslims, not to be used to disturb peace and stability in the area.He also cautioned against spreading of unfounded rumours that could breach peace and security in the area.The chairman urged the residents to report any suspicious movements to security agencies and implored traditional rulers, religious leaders and councillors to enlighten their subjects on the need to cooperate with the authorities to achieve the objective.
