BRFCC triumphs over GCIOBCC, as FCC 2 thrashes IMCC

Published by Guardian on Wed, 11 Jan 2012

GOVERNMENT College Ibadan Old Boys Cricket Club (GCIOBCC) last weekend suffered a chastening seven-run defeat to unbeaten BRFCC in the 2011/2012 Iris Smart Technology Cricket Club Committee League season at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval.Ogun Rocks of Abeokuta's former batsman, James Chukwu, top-scored with 65 runs while Ademola Onikoyi and Leke Oyede added 44 and 25 runs respectively as the league champions were dismissed for 193 runs all out inside 46 overs, and it took the brilliance of U-17 former player, Sesan Adedeji, who grabbed 3 wickets for 32 runs in 8 overs, supported by his team-mates, Oluwaseun Odekun and Obed Harvey, who had two wickets each. The total posted by BRFCC in the first innings rather looked achievable than sufficient for GCIOBCC, which was looking to break the unbeaten run of the captain Sean Phillip-led team in three seasons.Middle order batsman, Chimezie Onwuzulike, was on the verge of rescuing his team from yet another defeat after narrowly losing to FCC on December 17, 2011, by 4 runs but later ended up on 67 runs when his wicket was bowled by Nigeria's opening bowler, Saheed Akolade, who had 4 wickets, 28 runs and 1 maiden in 8.5 overs to confirm why national team selectors always pick him to represent Nigeria.New acquisition from Federal Government College Warri Old Boys Cricket Club, Abidun Abioye, and GCIOBCC former player, Endurance Ofem, claimed two wickets apiece after reducing their opponents to 186 runs in 47.5 overs.Despite missing captain Phillips and opening Batsman Femi Solebo due to an arm injury, the defending champions of CCC League still put up a spirited performance to make it four wins out of four while the Ibadan-based side has won two of its four matches to remain third behind second placed Foundation Cricket Club.In the other match played at the UNILAG Cricket Oval, Foundation Cricket Club 2 made it three wins out of five matches in Division 2 when it defeated Ibadan Metropolitan Cricket Club by 156 runs. The Ibadan-based side won the toss and elected to field, which FCC 2 took full advantage of by scoring 258 runs for loss of 4 wickets in 35 overs, with opening batsman Rotimi Adesanya scoring an unbeaten 102 runs not out while his partner, Sarumi Adedamola, celebrated his first ever 50 runs before he lost his wicket on 75 runs.Despite Atif's emergence as his side's top scorer with 59 runs in the second innings, it was not enough for IMCC to get a famous victory over the captain Sunday Adeleye-led side, which reduced its opponent to 152 runs all out in 32 overs.
