Sango-Ota, Ijoko, others demand physical infrastructure

Published by Tribune on Thu, 12 Jan 2012

Residents of Sango Ota, Ijoko, Iyana-Iyaye areas in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State have called on the officials of the local government to be more committed to their duty and embark on programmes that would benefit the people.Speaking at a stakeholders' meeting in Sango-Ota recently, a community leader, Alhaji Tayo Adeola, lamented the situation of things, especially infrastructures which are in shambles. Alhaji Adeola stated that roads in the area were in bad condition, while schools and sanitation were also in bad state, just as he complained that some months after the inauguration of the caretaker committeechairman for local governments, nothing has been done or achieved.'I live in this place and from what I have seen so far, there has not been any improvement in the quality of lives of our people. 'During the last rainy season, my area was flooded. We complained to the local government and they promised to rescue us during the dry season, but here we are now, nothing has been done. Anytime there is downpour, the area will be flooded again,' he said. The community leader added that in the area of sanitation, the governments, both the state and local had not done anything. 'If you go to Sango-Ota Central Market, you will notice the poor state of unhyginene in the place, it is the duty of the local government authority to clear the place and make it tidy, but we have not been seeing them doing so,' he said.He appealed to the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to compel the caretaker committee to embark on policies and programmes that would make meaningful impact on the lives of the people. 'We voted for the ruling party, but almost seven months of this administration, we are yet to feel the impact of this government in Ado-Odo,' he added.
