UNILAG-ASUU dissociates members from convocation

THE University of Lagos branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has dissociated itself from the palnned convocation ceremonies staled for January 18.According to a statement by the UNILAG-ASUU chairman, Dr Karo Ogbinaka, the University management has refused to accept the union's advice for a postponement of the convocation, in view of the prevailing crisis in the country.The statement read: 'In defiance of the advice ASUU leadership has given the University of Lagos adminstration to postpone the planned convocation ceremonies, it seems they are determined to endanger the lives of other people children at this very criticaland challenging period of our Nation.'The Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Lagos Branchis hereby dissociating herself from this convocation ceremonies. All ASUU members - including Deans and Provost, the VC and DVC - are directed not to participate in the events. We believe that the University is just being insensitive to the feelings of Nigerians, especially in this period of ASUU struggles and national protests. Parents and guardians are advised not to put their children on the road for this senseless decision.
