Jonathanll win in first ballotPDP His victory, our future - PDP Youth Leader

Published by Tribune on Fri, 01 Apr 2011

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday, dismissed the speculations doing the round that there would be a run-off in the coming presidential election before a winner could emerge among the contestants.Speaking at an interactive session with newsmen in Abuja, the acting national chairman of the party, Dr Haliru Bello Mohammed, said its presidential candidate, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, would emerge winner at the first ballot fair and square.Dr Mohammed said it was only President Jonathan, among all the candidates, that had wide spread acceptance, based on the responses received during the just-concluded campaign.According to him, President Jonathan has toured all the six geopolitical zones, the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to campaign for votes and, right now, all the PDP governors are going round the local governments and wards, meeting the electorate one-on-one, soliciting for votes.Mohammed said tell me any of other candidates, be he (Muhammadu) Buhari, (Ibrahim) Shekarau or (Nuhu) Ribadu that has done this. They are even struggling to touch some zones, not to talk of going to the 36 states of the federation and Abuja. They have no national spread and acceptability like our own candidates. Watch out, it is going to be 100 per cent votes for Jonathan in each of the six geopolitical zones. On a statement credited to a chieftain of the congress for Progressive Change (CPC) that Nigerians would not accept the poll results if General Buhari did not win, Dr Mohammed lamented that it was regrettable and shameful that such a leader could make such a wild and reckless statement.Meanwhile, youths of voting age have been urged to troop out en masse and vote for President Jonathan and other PDP candidates in the elections, to secure their future. The Director of Youth Affairs of the PDP Presidential Campaign Cuoncil, Dare Adeleke, gave the charge while addressing a forum of youths from the southern part of the country in Kaduna. He appealed to Nigerian youths to vote for Jonathan, adding that he was the only candidate that had comprehensive packages for them.
