Ekiti Labour Leaders Want Extortionists Punished

LABOUR leaders in Ekiti State yesterday urged security agencies to treat as armed robbers, those who block the roads and extort money from commuters during the ongoing nationwide protests in the state.Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Messrs Ayodeji Aluko and Kolawole Olaiya, as well as the students and civil society groups, made the call on day five of the protests against fuel subsidy removal.The protesters marched from Odo Ado in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, and stopped atIjigbo roundabout where they were addressed by the labour leaders andheads of allied groups.Aluko disclosed that they ended the protest at about 11am because of the directive they received from NLC and TUC national headquarters that the demonstration should be half day to allow Muslims to attend J'umat service in their respective mosques.
