Mika Brzezinski Battles Media Matters Founder David Brock Over New Clinton Book

Published by Huffington Post on Tue, 21 Apr 2015

MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski got into a tense discussion with Media Matters founder David Brock on Tuesday morning over an upcoming book that investigates foreign donations made to the Clinton Foundation and their connection to Hillary Clinton's actions as secretary of state. Brock, a strong Clinton supporter, called the new book a "political put-up job" and slammed its author. He said the book, titled Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich, will lack any concrete allegations against the 2016 presidential candidate and will likely be "100 percent innuendo." Brock's argument was quickly picked apart by the "Morning Joe" panel, which argued that it's only fair to look into the relationship between the Clinton Foundation and Clinton's tenure at the State Department. Brock responded by saying that if the media and politicians have questions, then they should look to Clinton's history and past actions for answers."But we kind of can't," Brzezinski interrupted. "Because what should be in the public record or at least viewed by the State Department has been scrubbed. So, how can we do that, David'" Brock responded that there are still some 55,000 pages of emails that were not deleted and can be looked at for insight. Clinton reportedly deleted all emails from a private server she used as secretary of state after handing over tens of thousands of pages to the State Department in December."David, don't deflect," Brzezinski said. "I'm talking about the ones that were scrubbed. How can you get answers from the ones that were scrubbed that might be considered, quote, personal business' There is no answer, is there''He continued to argue that anything related to her official business was not deleted, and can thus be checked."That's the way the law works, Mika," he said."No, actually, David, you don't have to give me a lesson on the regulations of the State Department. She scrubbed emails because she felt like it," Brzezinski responded. She later appeared frustrated, turning to co-host Joe Scarborough and asking, "Are we going to do this again''Watch the clip from MSNBC for the full exchange.H/T Mediaite -- This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms.
