Ebonyi Assembly passes 2012 budget of N86.896bn

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has passed into law the 2012 Appropriation Bill of N86.896 billion, for the service of Ebonyi State government for the year ending December 31, 2012.The law took effect from Monday, January 16, 2012, and will be cited as the Ebonyi State of Nigeria Appropriation Law 2012.Moving the motion for the passage of the bill into law, the ad-hoc committee chairman, and member representing Afikpo South west constituency in the state House of Assembly, Honourable Eni Uduma Chima, said that the committee critically examined the budget, noting that capital projects received the highest chunk of the budget.Seconding the motion, Honourable Odefa Obasi Odefa, representing Onicha East constituency, stressed the need for the timely passage of the bill to enable the state government provide the democratic dividends to the citizenry of the state.The bill was exhaustively debated in the committee of the whole house, prior to the presentation of the ad-hoc committee report where it was accepted as a working document, through a motion moved by Honourable Chike Ogiji and seconded by Honourable Julius Nwokporo.The speaker Honourable Chukwuma Nwazunku, put the motion to vote and it was unanimously adopted.It will be recalled hat Governor Martin Elechi had on December 31, 2011, presented the state government appropriation bill of N86.896 billion to the 24 member Assembly, with water supply and the environment receiving the highest allocation.
