Army, mosop factional leader bicker on military operation in Ogoni community

Five persons were claimed to have been shot on Tuesday morning, in Teyor Kaani community, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, when soldiers in several trucks allegedly invaded the comminuty.A factional leader of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), Dr Goodluck Diigbo, had raised the alarm that soldiers invaded the community without any reason, attacking innocent citizens.But the Army Public Relations Officer (APRO) of the 2 Amphibious Brigade, Port Harcourt Barracks, Lt. Col Aminu Iliyasu, described Diigbo's alarm as false, saying that soldiers were deployed across the state.While Diigbo said there was no need for military deployment in the community, the army claimed a criminal gang had been on the rampage in the community of late, adding that the gang also killed an army officer.Iliyasu said further that an investigation had been carried out, which had led to the identification and arrest of members of the criminal gang, adding that the suspects were being interrogated for further actions. 'That officers and men of the command have been and are still deployed all over the state especially at key and vulnerable points in aid of civil authority for the safety and security of lives and property. It is also true while these patriotic men are performing their legitimate duty in the said community, a criminal gang shot and killed an officer.
