LG election: Jang sacks LG chairmen, councillors

WITH the putting in place of the machinery for the conduct of a fresh local government election in Plateau State by the state governor, Jonah Jang, the chairmen of the 17 council areas of the state have been sacked.The state government, in December last year, constituted the state electoral commission to pave way for elections into the 17 local government areas of the state as the tenure of the incumbents expire in January 20, 2012.A highly dependable source close to the state government revealed that the chairmen who had been lobbying the governor and members of the state House of Assembly got the shock of their lives last Friday when they were served with letters of dissolution through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.According to the letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, all the chairmen and councillors were directed to hand over to the Director of Personnel Management in their respective local government areas by Thursday this week.Nigerian Tribune learnt that stakeholders in each of the local government areas had submitted the names of those who would constitute an advisory committee to run the affairs of the councils pending when election would be conducted.
