NPL bans 3SC from Awolowo stadium

NIGERIAN Premier League (NPL) has ordered Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) to look for an alternative venue for their home league games after their mid-week match against Gombe United tomorrow.Secretary of the league board, Tunji Babalola said the decision was taken by the board following what he described as the 'television unfriendly' state of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium pitch after watching last Saturday's encounter between 3SC and Rising Stars taken live on SuperSport television."Anybody that watched the league match between 3SC and Rising Stars would agree with me that the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan pitch was an embarrassment to the Nigeria Premier League."The pitch looked horrible and television unfriendly."Such a pitch cannot add value to our league."We would have stopped 3SC from playing its next home match at the same venue but we considered the fact that the notice would have been too short for the club to make alternative arrangement before Wednesday."We, however, expect 3SC to communicate us on the alternative venue for its subsequent home fixtures before or by Thursday latest," he stated.The NPL has however warned that it would not hesitate to clamp down on any stadium already approved to host league matches whenever such a stadium falls below the acceptable standard due to poor maintenance.
