I won't seek presidential pardon until I've cleared my name 'George

Published by Tribune on Wed, 25 Jan 2012

FORMER Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has said he will not consider asking for presidential pardon over his conviction until he has exhausted all judicial processes to clear his name.He insisted, during a visit to the State House on Tuesday, that he never committed the crime he went to jail for.A Lagos High Court had in October 2009, sentenced George and five others to 28 years jail term without option of fine over contracts splitting and inflation during his time as chairman of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).Fielding questions from State House reporters after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan, he maintained that there was a convoluted conspiracy against him. When asked whether he had come to ask for presidential pardon, he said: 'You must be kidding. It has nothing to do with it at all. They have done what they want to do but God is the greatest judge, isn't it'"If you were convolutedly conspired against, then what do you do' Thank God the judge himself said we didn't steal one single kobo. So what did I do'"He further said that, "the judicial thing is still there. It is right all the way to the top. Let's get down there before we sum it up."He explained that he was in the State House to see the president as the leader of the PDP, adding that the visit "could be in respect of anything. One, he is the leader of my party and two, he is the president of the country.
