Girl without arms, legs born in Bauchi

Published by Tribune on Thu, 26 Jan 2012

THE people of Dunomari in Sakwa village, Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, were stunned two weeks ago, when a housewife, Rukaiyya Didda, delivered a baby girl without arms and legs, even as the parents of the strange baby have called for help from government and kind-hearted Nigerians to raise her.Nigerian Tribune gathered that the girl, named Fatima, was born on Friday, January 13, to a peasant farmer father, Ahmadu Didda, at a local midwife home at Sandigalua village in the local government area.According to the father, the birth of the baby brought joy to the family, while he described Fatima as a beautiful baby and a special gift from God."This is a special gift from Allah and we are grateful to Him for giving us this beautiful baby,' Ahmadu told journalists. He, however, called on the Bauchi State government and well-meaning individuals to come to the aid of the family, with a view to taking good care of the little baby, saying that it would not be easy for him and his wife to take care of Fatima alone, considering her condition.According to Ahmadu, 'Fatima is a gift from God, but it won't be easy for us to raise her on our own, considering her condition, without legs and hands. She needs special care and attention. We feel sorry for her but with the assistance from government and kind-hearted individuals, I know she will live a good life.'Meanwhile, the chairman of people with disability Sakwa, Abdullahi Gindi, has joined calls for the society to assist the couple in taking care of the baby girl, saying that the baby needed special care and attention.
