Ringim's sack will not improve security ' Zamfara gov

Published by Tribune on Fri, 27 Jan 2012

Following the appointment of Mr Mohammed Dikko Abubakar as acting Inspector-General of Police by President Goodluck Jonathan, in an attempt to make the police more effective and capable of meeting emerging internal security challenges, the Zamfara State governor, Mallam Abdulaziz Yari, on Thursday, said the removal of Hafiz Ringim as the police chief will not improve security in the country.Governor Yari said what the country needed was for the security men to be alive to their responsibility in the area of intelligence gathering. The governor did not spare citizens of Nigeria for not supporting the security men with information, saying that the security officials should not be blamed for the incessant insecurity consuming the country.'Personally, I want to say the removal of the service chief does not improve security in the country, but let the security men do their jobs, most especially when it comes to the issue of intelligence gathering. 'In Nigeria today, we know the situation of security. I don't put blame on security agencies because in some other countries, they support their security agencies by giving them required information and by supporting themto do their jobs,' he said. The governor said in Nigeria, the issue of security went beyond changing of security chiefs, adding that there were lots of things to be done. He, however, advised the Federal Government to train the security men to be able to meet the challenges and other security matters.
