There seems to be end in sight to the lingering crisis in the Odo Ramuja Ruling House over the selection of a candidate to fill the vacant stool of Okemu of Ala, in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State.The state government in a release signed by the Press Officer, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lateef Ositelu, had waded into the dispute in a bid to bring an end to the crisis over the selection of a candidate to fill the stool which had been vacant for years.The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Muyiwa Oladipo, while addressing the ruling house at a peace meeting held at Oba's Complex , Governor's Office, Oke'Mosan, Abeokuta, said the major interest of the present administration under Governor Ibikunle Amosun was to ensure that the chieftaincy dispute was settled amicably between the members of the ruling house before it degenerated to serious rancour that could ignite communal unrest in the local government and the state at large.The Director of Civil Litigation and Advisory Services of the Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Sola Sobayo, during the meeting, gave insight into the position of the law in resolving the matter.The commissioner emphasised that, failure to resolve the dispute among members of the same ruling house of Odo Ramuja and forward a successful candidate in accordance with the Chiefs Laws of Ogun State and in reference to the Chieftaincy Declaration of the town within 14 days from the day the letter was served which said that the kingmakers must present a successful candidate to the state government within seven days for further processing or else the chieftaincy title would be shifted to the next ruling house.The commissioner reiterated that, the policy thrust of the administration was not only to ensure that dividends of democracy go to the people at the grassroots level, but also to ensure safety of lives and property across the state, adding that there could not be any meaningful development in a state bedeviled with crisis.Chief Oladipo disclosed that, since the demise of Oba Ogunbanke in 2006, the stool had been vacant.He said,' the state government will not want the chieftaincy dispute to remain unresolved, like that of Olu of Ilaro in Yewa South Local Government that is in a stalemate.'The ruling house must see reasons in resolving the quarrel within the time frame in order to successfully select the candidate for the vacant stool of Okemu of Ala".In their separate responses, Hon.Adefowope Adebola, Mr Adekunle Ogun, Chief Nosiru, Alhaji Ogunfarasin among other representatives of Odo Ramuja Ruling House appreciated the timely intervention of the state government in calling for peaceful resolution of the dispute.They promised to be calm and abide by the resolution of the state government.
