Lagos govt urged to reduce school fees in LASU

Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State has been advised to use part of the money that would accrue to the state from oil subsidy removal to supplement the students' school fees at Lagos State University (LASU).It will be recalled that the state government recently increased the school fees, a decision that was condemned by the citizens, but the government stood its ground. Mr Titus Agbaje of Education for All (EA) who gave the advice, urged the state government to reduce the burden of parents by reducing the school fees payable by students. 'With the increase in fuel price, it means parents would now be confronted by more problems, so, we are calling on the state government to consider the plights of the people and use part of the money that would be given to the state to supplement the school fees of the students of the institution'.Agbaje explained that the state government had good intention, but the money from the fuel subsidy would go a long way to help the state government to achieve its intention of improving the quality of education in LASU without increasing the school fees.He stated that the advice, if adhered to, would go a long way to portray the state governor as a listening and people friendly governor.
