Sango-Ota residents decry continued traffic congestion

Published by Tribune on Fri, 27 Jan 2012

Ogun State Government has been urged to draft more law enforcement agents to Sango Ota, Ado Odo Local Government Area of the state, to reduce the traffic snarl in the area. Some of the residents lamented that the problem of traffic congestions was caused by indiscipline on the part of road users, adding it was becoming unbearable, hence the need for the state government to move in, to save the situation.A commercial driver, Mr Tayo Alao, told Community News that reckless driving accounted for most of the problems in the area. He, therefore, called on the state government to draft more law enforcement agents to the place to forestall the usual traffic snarl.Other drivers who spoke with Community News, also lamented that it was a common sight to see a faulty articulated vehicle spending about three to four days on the road unattended to. 'The major cause of traffic snarl in this place is indiscipline. It is common to see a trailer driver abandoning his vehicle on the middle of the road for days. You cannot do that type of nonsense in Lagos. It is high time the Ogun State Government woke up to its responsibility. The state can equally make some money by imposing fines on drivers of broken down vehicles. This would reduce the rate at which people abandon their vehicles on the highway in the state. There are laws guiding traffic, but the personnel to enforce them are few in the area, hence the need for the state government to draft more law enforcement agents to the area.
