Groups canvass second term for Auchi Poly rector

A group known as Edo Youth Leaders Council (EYLC) has expressed its support for the second tenure ambition of the rector of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Dr (Mrs) Philipa Idogho, describing publications against her right to aspire for another term in office as unjust.In a statement signed by its national president, Okokugha Dauda, the EYLC said the anti-Idogho for second term comments lacked merit, substance and were aimed at creating disaffection, anarchy and distractions from the meaningful progress being made by the Idogho administration.Besides, another group known as the Auchi Polytechnic Academic Staff Forum, also said that contrary to claims, the rector has nothing untowards in her service records. 'The Public Service Rule 020810 of 2008 and various circulars from the Ministry of Education show that academic staff retire at the age of 65 years irrespective of length of service. Indeed, it is as a result of the circulars that academic staff, who were caught in the web of length of service and age were recalled,' the statement said.The groups' expression of support for Idogho's quest came against the backdrop of a statement by Mr. Friday Idugie, challenging what he described as unlawful dismissal as a lecturer in the school by the Idogho administration and the querying by Auchi Youths for Change (AYC) of the recent recommendation of Dr. Idogho by the Extended Management Committee (EMC) of the institution for a second term as rector.Idugie, an Art lecturer, also alleged the existence of high level corruption in the polytechnic and flayed anti-graft agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the National Board on Technical Education (NBTE) for not acting on the various petitions bordering on corruption that he had sent to them.Contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Auchi Polytechnic, Mustapha Oshiobugie, said Idugie's allegations were not true and that these were the same allegations Idugie had been making overtime, just as he added that the 'EFCC, ICPC, Auditor General had at various times visited the school based on his allegations.
