Babangida: I will wear my uniform and fight for Nigeria

ALMOST eighteen years after stepping aside, former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), said yesterday that he was ready to defend the unity of Nigeria and vowed to wear his uniform again 'to keep the country one from disintegration'.He argued that the most important thing at the moment before him and all those who fought the civil war to keep Nigeria united was the unity of the country.The former military ruler, who spoke on the Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) monitored in Kaduna, said: 'The civil war claimed over a million lives and was fought to keep Nigeria united, many were wounded and are still alive while many lost their sight and limbs, it would be unfair to reward such people if Nigeria was allowed to disintegrate because the civil war would have been fought in vain.
