Robbers Kill 15 Traders In Zamfara, Set Victims Ablaze

TRAGEDY struck yesterday in Zamfara State when a gang of armed robbers killed 15 traders along Shamushalli-Batsari road of Birnin Magaji Local Council and set them ablaze. An eyewitness told The Guardian that the incident occurred onThursday when the armed robbers attacked a convoy of traders who were on their way to Batsari in Katsina State to buy and sell goods at the famous BatsariMarket. It was gathered that the hoodlums numbering about 100 barricaded the road and started robbing the traders of their belongings, and in the pandemonium that broke out, 15 of the traders were killed on the spot while seven others sustained various degrees of injuries. The bodies of the victims were later set ablaze by the rampaging hoodlums before escaping into the bush.As at the time of filing this report, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Tambari Yabo has relocated to the area. A police source who pleaded not to be mentioned said the police had swung into action to arrest the culprits. Also speaking in an interview, the Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Birninmagaji described the incident as terrible and barbaric. According to him, the state government will support the police in ensuring that those who perpetrated the heinous act are made to face the wrath of the law.Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Hassan Atto Bungudu, Yabo, Emir of Birnin Magaji, Alhaji Ahmad Umar, Muhammad were among top personalities that attended the funeral prayer of the victims during their burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
