U-MOBILE, a mobile telephone-enable payment option of the United Bank for Africa Plc, has become the first mobile banking application in the country to be hosted on the Apps Store for Apple IOS devices.A statement issued by the bank says this underscores the quality of U-Mobile application sine only applications that are reliable and based on a set of technical criteria are published on Apple App Store.'UBA U-Mobile met all the requirements and was listed on Apple App Store in December 2011,' it stated.The Apple App is an online store where apple iPhone, iPad and iPod users can purchase applications for their apple mobile devices.UBA customers who use Apple iPhone and iPad can download U-Mobile for free from Apple App Store.According to the bank's Divisional Head, e Banking, 'U-Mobile brings complete convenience to banking. It is your bank in your pocket. Using a mobile phone, customers can manage their bank accounts'and carry out a wide range of financial transactions, including instant funds transfer, bills payment, airtime top-up, payment for goods and services, airline ticket payment, balance enquiry and view transaction history.'All financial transactions on U-Mobile are secured by PIN and password. U-Mobile is very convenient for making bill payments. There are many billers on U-Mobile, making it very easy for U-Mobile users to renew their satellite TV subscription and pay utility bills (including water, electricity and telephone) and other bills. U-Mobile users can also request bank drafts/cheque book and stop a cheque payment via mobile phone.' Afripay Limited, a subsidiary of UBA, was the first among the 11 licensees approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to render the service. It was launched last November.Group Managing Director/ CEO of the bank, Mr. Phillips Oduoza, said the launch of U-Mo is a major step towards realising the objectives of the Cash lite policy of the CBN.'This product is the first in the banking industry in line with the CBN's policy and it is going to be a revolution. It is unique. Almost any form of bank transaction can be done via U-Mo,' he continued.Managing Director of Afri-Pay, Mr. Yinka Adedeji, said the company would render three categories of U-Mo accounts namely ' Silver, Gold and Platinum. U-Mo Silver is offered for customers with very minimal information. It allows customers to up N3, 000 per transaction and N30, 000 per day.U-Mo Gold is available for customers who are capable of initiating N10, 000 per transaction and up to N100, 000 per day while Platinum is for customers with information that include address verification and a reference as it allows they can use it to pay up to N100,000 per transaction and up to N1,000,000 per day.Adedeji stated: 'Customers with accounts in any bank are encouraged to sign up for U-Mo as they will be able to easily load money from their bank account into U-Mo and vice-versa.
