Nigeria's 'Top Three Attractions' Identified

THE Naija Seven Wonders project team has released three top finalists in the hunt for the seven top tourist attractions across the country. The top three sites are Obudu Mountain Resort/Cable Car, Osun Grove and Sukur Cultural Landscape. The remaining four sites are expected to be named in the weeks ahead.The project was spearheaded by the publishers of Africa Travel Quarterly (ATQ) and organisers of Nigeria/west Africa premier travel and tourism trade exhibition, Akwaaba, Mr. Ikechi Uko, in January 2010, with the aim of searching out the seven most-endowed, unique and outstanding attractions that should be used to market Nigeria globally.A team of experts, including the travel press and operators in tourism industry was set up to adjudicate with the public given opportunity at the various stages of the project to send in nominations, which were then verified by the judges.Once the other four finalists are released, Uko, who expressed delight and appreciation to Nigerians and the entire project team for believing in the dream and giving it the chance to succeed, said the entire list would be presented at a press conference billed for February followed by the plaque presentation ceremonies and a trip to the seven sites by both national and international media, as well as tour operators.This, he said would be followed by extensive development and marketing programmes, as well as training of personnel that would be entrusted with the management of the sites. He added that this would be done in collaboration with the owners of the centres.
