Yidi-Arola residents lament neglect by Ido LG

Published by Tribune on Tue, 31 Jan 2012

RESIDENTS of Yidi-Arola community which is very close to Apete in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State, have called on the authorities of the local government to have mercy on them by repairing the roads in the community, stressing that they have suffered enough on the road linking Apete area.Similarly, people living in communities of Aiyegun, Olomo and other near-by environments have also tasked the caretaker chairman of Ido Local Goverment Area, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, to fulfill his promise of being fair to every community in the council in terms of development by quickly commencing works on the reliabilitation of Yidi-Arola road, Ayeigun-Olomo road, as well as Olomo-Apete road.People of the communities, in their complaint to Community News, explained that physical development has been eluding the areas in recent times despite their many outcries to both local government and Oyo State government.Mr Bola Oyediran, a resident of Yidi-Arola, while conducting Comunity News round the bad road in the area said, 'only God knows when the state government would show mercy on us by rehabilitating the Yidi-Arola road. We, especially members of the Landlords/Landladies Association of this area have shown our displeasure and grieviances over this bad road on many occasions, but up till this moment, there is no sign that repair work would soon reach our community.'Speaking further, Mr Oyediran said he has been living in the area for over five years but has not seen any sign of physical development not to talk of presence of any essential facilities either from the local council or state government in the community. He said the little social amenities in the community were achieved through communal and individual efforts, adding that Yidi-Arola community ought to have developed more than the present state going by the support given to the present administration by the people of the area.A member of Aiyegun community, Mrs Abidemi Awe, who is a provision and daily needs trader in the area, lamented that the road in the area was going from bad to worse, stressing that her major fear was how the community would look like during the raining season.According to her, 'if our road could be so bad in the dry season, you can imagine what woud be our experience during the raining season. But all we can do is just to beg the caretaker chairman of Ido Local Government council, Professor Olowofela to help fix it. We know he is a lover of grass roots development and he's our friend and we believe he would listen to our cry through this medium,' she stated. For Mr Segun Badejo who is a house owner at Olomo area, he tasked the state government to remember residents of the community in times of needs so that the people can also give the government the needed support at the appropriate time, especially during the coming local government election.'To whom much is given, much is also expected. We have done our part by supporting the state government when they needed our support. But we are now begging them not to forget our own dividends of democracy. They should help repair our roads, we are not asking for money, food stuffs or Ankara, they should help us so that we can also help them. The government should remember that we would always need each other,' he posited.
