Why Gareth Bale Would Be the Dream Summer Transfer for Bayern Munich

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 19 May 2015

Bayern Munich will undoubtedly sound out their intentions in the coming summer transfer window as they always do, but just which player would truly redefine this team and drag them back to the summit of European football'The club have been linked with a number of players across Germany and the wider continent, but one star who would actually sort out Pep Guardiola's side has yet to be considered by the rumour mill.Real Madrid's Gareth Bale is the player Bayern truly need this summer if they want to take their team to the next level. The first thing worth noting is that Bayern certainly could afford a player like Bale. Although the German giants rarely spend huge amounts of moneywith the current transfer record sitting at 40 million for Javi Martinezthe club have spoken recently about flexing their financial clout in recent months.Speaking to Kicker magazine (h/tDW)in March, the club's finance director, Jan-Christian Dreesen, said,"Yes, we could pay 100 million or a player.""We have four financial sources: TV rights, ticketing, merchandizing and sponsoring," he said. "We never plan to make money from transfers, we see ourselves more as a club that buys players."Although the wages he currently picks up each week in Madrid may well cause something of a stumbling block, it was a strong statement that certainly suggests that if the Welsh international was made available this summer, Bayern could join the ranks of big clubs interested in his services. From a more practical point of view, Bale also makes perfect sense for Bayern this summer. He is a player of unquestionable talent who would not only add to Guardiola's squad overall but also make a very specific addition to the team's diminishing talent on the wings.Although the Bavarian giants could use a new right-back, possibly another defensive midfielder and a backup for forward Robert Lewandowski, the long-term solution to getting this team back on their feet in the UEFA Champions League next season is a genuine alternative to Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery on either wing.As things currently stand, Bayern have absolutely no wingers at the club under the age of 31.Sinan Kurt may be one for the future, but he can't be relied upon to step in or indeed improve upon what Robben and Ribery have to offer. Aside from him, it's shadow striker Thomas Muller, attacking midfielder Mario Gotze or simply nothing.Although the two wingers still offer genuine class and ability on each wing, there's no denying that Bayern need a third quality wide player who can fill in or indeed challenge for a spot when one does inevitably get injured. With Bale in the side, Guardiola could continuously switch the three players around from one competition to the next. The former Barcelona manager simply can't employ that tactic with the current Munich side, especially near the end of the season. There is also the fact that Bale is in his own right an exceptional player worthy of a spot on any team. With all due respect to Robben and Co., the Welsh international currently boasts the talent and abilities that would put him above any single player in this current Bayern side.Although he may not be of the quality of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, Bale is the closest thing Bayern could pick up this summer to a player like Neymar or Eden Hazard. And that's something that Guardiola desperately needs. The Spanish coach may have Muller to score him important goals along with the genius of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm in midfield, but he doesn't have anything quite like Messi during his time at Barcelona. The 25-year-old Bale is one of the best players in the world, and if given the option to propose a bid, Bayern would be fools to turn down the opportunity of signing such a talent and confirming their chances of further success next season under Guardiola.Follow @sbienkowski
