TELECOMMUNICATIONS service provider, MTN Nigeria has claimed an investment of over $10 billion in building Nigeria's mobile telecommunications infrastructure in the provision of voice, data and other technical services to Nigerians on its network.MTN Nigeria, according to statistics, has about 42 million subscribers on its network, provides services in 223 cities and towns and more than 10,000 villages across Nigeria's 36 states in the last 10 years.Indeed, in an effort to improve on its service offerings, in the areas of data services, especially in the 3G key performance indicators (KPI), the telecommunications firm has entered into agreement with Qualcomm, a global IT managed service and solution provider.In the new agreement, MTN Nigeria and Qualcomm are collaborating to deliver a high-quality mobile experience by improving the 3G key performance indicators of MTN Nigeria's wireless network.Speaking on the partnership in a statement at the weekend, the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of MTN Nigeria, Mrs. Lynda Saint-Nwafor, said maximising the full potential of 3G technology will allow MTN Nigeria's 42 million subscribers to enjoy reliable, world-class service on mobile devices, saying with MTN investment in Nigeria over $10 billion so far, the telecommunications company is committed to investing more on its network on an ongoing basis. 'As our subscriber base continues to grow, having an efficient and reliable network is essential to providing our customers with a best-in-class mobile experience,' She said.Already, the company's Corporate Service Executive, Akinwale Goodluck had informed some weeks back about the company's move to invest about $1 billion on the network in Nigeria, stressing that, this will expand its operations and boost its network offerings.Continuing, the CTO hinted that the choice of Qualcomm was based on Qualcomm's comprehensive network services and strong expertise in 3G and 4G technologies, 'this makes it the ideal partner to help MTN improve the quality of its network. Optimising the performance of MTN's 3G network will allow it to offer seamless and reliable voice calling, as well as faster 3G data speeds for activities such as texting, sharing multimedia and browsing the Web', she stressed.The partnership also informed that Qualcomm will provide technical and engineering support to help MTN Nigeria benchmark and audit its 3G network to identify potential areas for increased efficiency.According to the Senior Director of West African Operations, Qualcomm, Mr. Alex Dadson, Qualcomm was committed to helping operators in Africa to make the most of their technology investments. ' With our presence in the local Nigerian market, we are pleased to be working with MTN Nigeria to enhance the quality of service on their 3G network.
