Imo State to host National Women's Championship

THE Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has approved that Imo State would host the third edition of the National Women's Championship.In a letter to the chairman of Imo State Association, dated January 25, 2012, the General Manager/Chief Operating Officer of NCF, George Wiltshire, stated that the NCF has approved the request for Imo State to host the third edition of the National Women's Championship 2012.He further stated that it was hoped that the state 'will use this opportunity to spread and develop the noble game of cricket at the grassroots level in Imo State.'The Imo female team emerged second in the second edition of the National Women's Cricket Championship staged in Lagos from May 25 to 28, 2011 and also won the Wicket Keeper of the Series Award, which went to Obumneke Akunaru. Two of the players were invited to the National Team trails for the Uganda trip.In a chat with the Chairman of Imo Cricket Association, Prof. Okoh, he assured that Imo was ready to host the tourney and that the association would formally communicate the NCF of their acceptance. Meanwhile, preparation for the South East Championship for Barr. Chuma Anosike Cup to hold at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, in late February continues in Anambra.
