Lagos to launch Chess4Change campaign

THE newly inaugurated board of the Lagos State Chess Association (LSCA) rose from its maiden meeting yesterday with a resolution to design and implement short and long-term developmental programmes to reposition the sport in Lagos State.A major highlight of the resolution is the adoption of a central theme, Chess4Change, as thestrategic direction for the developmental programme that would see the association take the sport to public and private schools in the state.LSCA Chairman, Fela Bank-Olemoh, explained that the board would in the short-term work towards ensuring that the state won 12 gold medals at the National Sports Festival and in the long-term secure corporate partnership to drive the Chess4Change campaign.'Chess is all about solving knotty problems and in a developing economy like Nigeria, solutions are in hot demand,' he said. 'So, we at the Lagos State Chess Association will contribute towards a brighter future for Nigeria by grooming the next generation of problem solvers, using Chess as a platform.'The Chess4Change campaign, he said, would be a cross-institutional collaboration involving the Ministries of Education and Youths and Sports as well as the association of privately owned schools in Lagos, adding: 'Ultimately, we want to take chess to every home so we will start from our homes to solve problems and make Nigeria a country of great thinkers.
