Associates mark Oyeweso's birthday with colloquium on Emeka Ojukwu

IN the celebration of life of the historian, seasoned academic, accomplished researcher and university administrator, Professor Siyan Oyeweso, unusual thing will always happen. Every discerning soul is bound to seek for the correlation between a colloquium on Emeka Ojukwu: The end of an Era' and Prof. Siyan Oyeweso at 51 birthday anniversary ceremony' And that is exactly what is going to happen today at the College of Humanities and Culture, Ikire campus, Ikire of the Osun State University, where the committee of friends of Siyan Oyeweso is hosting a colloquium on the life and times of the head of state of the defunct republic of Biafara, Chukwumeka Odumegwu Ojukwu to mark the 51st birthday anniversary of the erudite scholar.Beginning from 10 a.m., the colloquium will be presided over by Prof. Charles Olutayo Adesina of the Department of History, University of Ibadan, while Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Najeemdeen Folasade Salaam is expected as the special guest of honour.Born on February 1, 1961 in Ede, Oyeweso obtained his PhD in History from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 1995. He thereafter joined the services of the Lagos State University as Assistant Lecturer in 1985 and rose through the ranks to become Professor in 2004.Over the years, Oyeweso has distinguished himself in teaching, research and university administration at the Lagos State University where he served as Head of Department, Dean of Faculty among other statutory positions. He was the pioneer Provost of College of Humanities and Culture of Osun State University, Osogbo and Chairman, Committee of Provosts, Deans and Directors of the University up till 2011.He has authored a number of books and published several articles and book chapters in both local and foreign outlets. Some of these include: Perspectives on Nigerian Civil War; Eminent Yoruba Muslims; Journey from Epe: Biography of S.L. Edu; Badagry: A Study in the History and Culture of an Ancient City; Mokwugo Okoye: Struggle for National Liberation and Social Justice; Ijesa Icons and the Making of Modern Nigeria: Essays in Honour of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. His most recent work is From Leo Ajiborisa to Rauf Aregbesola: Perspectives on Osun State at 20 (2011). A fellow of Historical Society of Nigeria (FHSN), Prof. Oyeweso is widely travelled and has participated in academic gatherings in different countries of the world in Africa, Europe and America. He is the current editor-in-chief of African Nebula: Journal of Multidisciplinary Scholarship.
