After beating out 5,000 other contestants in 1998's "Wanna Be A VJ" competition, an 18-year-old Jesse Camp became a high-profile "video jockey" on MTV, which was still riding high during the peak of its cultural relevance. But his eccentric look, dry sense of humor and distinctively high-pitched voice made viewers wonder if he was under the influence as he introduced their favorite videos.
