Ebonyi LG chairman impeached in a hotel

A major political crisis erupted in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, on Wednesday, which culminated in the purported impeachment of the council boss, Mr Ikeuwa Omebeh, by 10 out of 14 members of the legislative council.The impeachment exercise, rather than being executed at the council's legislative assembly, took place at a renowned hotel, Salt Lake Hotel, located in the state capital.But in a quick reaction, the embattled council boss, described the impeachment as 'kangaroo exercise,'' noting that it was unlawful for the council legislators to sit in a hotel and outside Ezza North Local Government Area.Moving the motion under matters of urgent importance, the councillor representing Omege Ward, Mr Sunday Nwokporo, accused the chairman of gross misconduct, incompetence and anti party activities.He said:'Whereas the chairman has continued to be incapable of tackling the worsening security situation in the local government area, I, Honourable Nwokporo Sunday, councillor of Omege Ward, do hereby move a motion that the chairman, Mr Ikeuwa Omebeh, be removed from office for gross misconduct, corruption, abuse of office and incompetence.''The motion was seconded by Mrs Chioma Nworie of Ogharaugo/Umuoghara Ward after which the new leader, Mr Larry Igwe put the motion to vote and was unanimously adopted by the House.
