Babura LG partners river basin authority on irrigation farming

BABURA Local Government Area in Jigawa State, in collaboration with the Hadejia/Jama'are River Basing Authority under Fadama and irrigation developments has constructed 125 tube wells free of charge to irrigation farmers in different communities in the council.This was disclosed by the local government chairman, Alhaji Aminu Ahmed, while speaking with Community News at Insharuwa village, one of the benefiting communities recently.Alhaji Aminu Ahmed explained that the gesture was in line with his council's commitment to improved agriculture and irrigation farming in order to supplement the state and Federal Government policy on food security in the country.The council boss noted that the council constructed each tube well at the cost of N45, 000, making a total of N5, 760, 000, that was spent on the tube wells.According to him, a pilot project was done at Kuzunzumi village to provide the farmers with water pump generators also free, adding that the result was encouraging as the farmers involved in the pilot project enjoyed the programme, thus, the council decided to expand the project to various villages that have Fadama in their areas.He said his council, therefore, contacted the Hadejia/Jama'are River Basing Authority for support and professional guides and 'instantly, the Hadejia / Jama'are River Basing Authority agreed to support us with all the water pump generators to all beneficiaries of the tube wells'.The local council chairman noted that the beneficiary communities included Dankarda, Garungudunya, Insharuwa, Kuzunzumi, and Rafintsamiya.
