Oyo SWAN condemns assault on commissioner '3SC drowns Dolphins

Published by Tribune on Fri, 03 Feb 2012

SPORTS Journalists in Oyo state, under the aegis of the State's chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, has condemned the assault on the state's commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dapo Lam-Adesina, a 3SC official and a player, after the team's Nigeria Premier League Week 4 game against Gombe United, which ended goalless at the Obafemi Awolowo stadium, Ibadan last Wednesday.Fans of the club vent their anger on the commissioner, 3SC Club Manager, Mutiu Adepoju and team striker, Raheem Owolabi, using abusive words on the commissioner and Adepoju, while Owolabi was beaten up after being accused of missing several chances which could have been converted to goals.Oyo SWAN, in a release jointly signed by the Acting chairman, Seun Ajayi-Obe and the Public Relations Officer, Tosin Omojola, described the act as brutal, barbaric and unacceptable, calling on the section of 3SC fans to desist from the act. The association stressed that: "3SC needs the full support of all its fans, for both the players and officials to capture their awakening insight and focus more on achieving for the club and its fans' desired objectives".Meanwhile,SHOOTING Stars Sports Club, 3SC, yesterday at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, defeated Nigeria Premier League champions, Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt in a Week six fixture. The result shot the Ibadan side to eight points and marked the first defeat for Dolphins.Nigeria's FIFA U-17 Champion, Dele Ajiboye, made the difference when he converted a first half penalty kick in the 13th minute of the encounter when a 3SC striker was brought down in the box.An elated chief coach of the 3SC, Festus Allen told sportswriters after the match that though the game was scrappy, his team deserved to win the game.''It was a tough match,'' Allen stated.''We are grateful to have won this game. Any game against Dolphins is a big challenge and it is good we were able to get the result. I must thank our fans who followed us to Abeokuta, we really appreciate their support.''Tribunesports recalls that the NPL has asked the Shooting Stars to play their home games at the MKO Abiola International Stadium following disapproval of the condition of the pitch at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.
