Abuja communities yet to access $3m FCT Fadama III

Published by Tribune on Fri, 03 Feb 2012

Communities in Abuja are yet to access about $3 million Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fadama III fund as the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has only disbursed $1, 099, 552.67 out of the $4. 158 million fund. The administration has nonetheless committed N100 million as counterpart fund to the Fadama III project.Minister of State for FCT, Jumoke Akinjide has already briefed the World Bank lenders on implementation progress of the fund. The minister made this known during a mid-term review of the projects hosted by FCT-Fadama coordination office in Abuja. The minister informed that the N100 million already disbursed was, however, for the payment of various sub-projects.According to her, they include the acquisition of various asset types and inputs for production and processing. They also covered costs of capacity-building and advisory services to all the benefiting groups and communities.Akinjide disclosed that 927 sub-project applications had so far been received with 319 fully implemented. She said 241 others were ongoing.According to her, 'in order to create widespread impact, the entire FCT was divided into 19 Fadama Development Areas under the existing six area councils. Since this mission has a topmost objective of reviewing the project implementation progress at midterm across the project components and to identify issues preventing smooth project implementation, it is my candid opinion that the hosting of World Bank/FGN lenders' MTR by FCT will generate comments and ideas,' she said.
