Boko Haram: Judge threatens to strike out charges against Ndume

Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has threatened to strike out the charges preferred against Senator Ali Ndume by the Federal Government of Nigeria, as one of the sponsors of the terrorist sect, Boko Haram, over the prosecution's request for adjournmentAt the last hearing in the case on December 19, 2011, Kolawole, who is the trial judge, had made an order for accelerated hearing and adjourned the matter to February 2 and 7 and 14, 2012 for trial.When the hearing commenced yesterday, Mr. Cliff Osagie, standing in for the lead prosecuting counsel, the Director of Public Prosecution, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Fatunde, told the court the DPP was absent.Osagie said a letter informing the court and the defense of the DPP's absence as a result of an event of national importance had been forwarded to the concerned parties.
