Kano: Walking in the valley of fear

It is known as the commercial nerve centre and hub of business in the northern part of Nigeria. It was also a melting pot for several tribes and races from across the globe. But the peace of the city was shattered again, two weeks ago, when Islamic fundamentalists struck and killed hundreds of people in a coordinated attack. The result today is that Kano is a shadow of itself, as many who make the city tick have run away for safety, while the government grapples with the strange challenge of over-policing a business hub. TED ODOGWU, Bureau Chief, Kano, reports that even the native traders are also weeping at their losses.
