Corruption is the act of terrorism confronting Nigeria

Published by Tribune on Mon, 06 Feb 2012

The General Overseer of Rhema Chapel International Church, Reverend George Adegboye, has identified corruption as the greatest act of terrorism confronting Nigeria as a nation. Speaking in Ilorin, Kwara State at the weekend, Reverend Adegboye said corruption among majority of Nigerians, particularly the leaders, had destroyed the country and affected all spectrums of the economy.Reverend Adegboye, however, said he was still hopeful that Nigeria would come out of the problems now confronting her and enjoined the leaders to be more focused, sincere and avoid contradictions in the nation's polity. The cleric noted that no country today in the world became developed or modern without facing what Nigeria was currently experiencing, stressing that what we have found in the society was a product of what had been made of it and therefore, called for attitudinal change by the society at large.Reverend Adegboye also said there was no religion across the world, be it Christianity or Islam, that preaches violence but love and peaceful co-existence.He described the activities of the Boko Haram sect as the handiwork of some few people who had a negative interpretation of the practice of Islam.Reverend Adegboye appealed to the government and security operatives to closely study the activities of the Boko Haram sect, saying that their issue needed to be addressed from the grass roots, through dialogue and disagreed with those that described them as faceless people, stressing that they had their sponsors. He said with the proliferation of churches and mosques in the country, the society was still morally bankrupt. This development, he said could be traced to the attitude of the religious leaders who were not preaching the true teachings of God but rather material benefits which had nothing to do with the transformation of the people and the society. The Clergy, who was a former lecturer at the Kwara State Polytechnic said, already he had visited one hundred and twenty-two countries across the world in his crusade and expressed optimism that Nigeria would be a better country, but called for more commitment on the part of the leaders and love among Nigerians.Reverend Adegboye disclosed that the administration of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed was being supported with prayers and expressed the hope that he would take the good work of the former administration to the next level.
