NTDC boss lauds WCGC tourney

DIRECTOR General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Commission board, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe has lauded the just-concluded World Corporate Golf Championship saying, the event was the height of local golf tourism and it had impacted on the Uyo community in a way that golfers had least thought of.In fact the local economy here has been impacted right from the Airport and the bus park since these 120 golfers and acquaintances came to town,Runsewe who featured in the tourney said.Runsewe announced N100,000 cash reward for the four caddies who carried bags for the NTDC team through the weekend competition.Meanwhile despite finishing in pole position, 24th place at the just-concluded tourney, Uptown team captain, Grace Ihonvbere has claimed her team was unique and should be praised for fielding the highest number of women players at the event.I believe we should encourage more women golfers. We have learnt our lesson and we would be coming next year better preparedfor this game, she said.Ihonvbere, who was also playing at the prestigious Le Meridien Hotel and Golf Resort for the first time said the facility was easily the best in the country.She believes that, if more of such facility could be provided in other parts of the country, it would help the development of the game.
