Bayelsa gov-elect, Dickson, receives certificate of return

Published by Tribune on Tue, 14 Feb 2012

the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of Bayelsa, Edo, Rivers and Delta states, Dr Ismael Igbani, on Monday, in Yenagoa, presented certificate of return to the newly elected governor of Bayelsa State, Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson. The brief ceremony, which was performed inside the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] office, beside the Bayelsa State secretairiat annexe, lasted 25 minutes.Addressing the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that witnessed the occasion, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mr Edwin Nwatalari, commended politicians for exhibiting decorum during the poll, just as he urged them to maintain peace, which, he said, was germane to the development of the state. In an interview with newsmen after receiving the certificate of return, the Bayelsa State governor-elect, Honourable Dickson, said, 'I feel elated over my victory. More than anything else, I feel humbled at this overwhelming mandate that our people have freely bestowed on our party, on my humble self and running mate.'My message for Bayelsans is that they have voted rightly and that they have voted for restoration and restoration has, indeed, have arrived. They should be prepared for big bang. I would not let them down.'Dickson, who promised to run an all inclusive government, stated that 'even though we went into election as opponents, but after the results were declared, I thought that hostility should cease and we in the PDP have extended hands of partnership to all other parties and candidates, because the people in whose interest we went into the election have spoken. I expect that all democrats should hearken to the voice of the people.
