Expert urges govt to support community policing

Published by Tribune on Tue, 14 Feb 2012

The Chairman of Eleshin Security Services, Prince Ibrahim Odofin, has described the spate of insecurity in the country as very alarming and urged the government to find immediate solution to the problem. Odofin, former chairmanship aspirant, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decried the spate of insecurity in the country, particularly in Lagos State, calling for community policing to solve the problem. This was coming on the heels of the killing of a Lagos banker, last week, by armed bandits; as he, however, lamented the indiscriminate robbery attacks on innocent citizens.Prince Odofin stated this while fielding questions from journalists when his security outfit arrested some robbers.'The armed gang have been terrorising residents of Lekki area of Lagos'.He said it was by astute calculation and firm training, coupled with support from residents, that thebandits were apprehended,Several valuables and ammunitions were seized from the armed group, who were later handed over to the Area J Command of the Police.Odofin further reiterated his total confidence in the new IGP, saying 'when he was the CP of Lagos, he was a super cop, giving robbers a run for their lives'. He appealed to the government to give more support to community policing.
