Don't disturb our peace, Ilaje communities plead

Published by Tribune on Tue, 14 Feb 2012

The people of Awoye and Molutilehin quarters of Ilaje Local Government of Ondo State have urged Governor Olusegun Mimiko to sustain the existing peace in the communities. They also enjoined the Olugbo of Ugbo, Oba Frederick Akinruntan, and Chairman of Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) Mr Adebowale Ajimuda, to avoid actions that will threaten the peace of the area. They spoke at a news conference addressed by the traditional rulers of Awoye, High Chief Oyekanmi Mathias Omomowo and Molulitehin, High Chief Elisary IyinboAghorunse. They alleged that Mr. Adekunle Omomowo has been imposed on the communities as chairman of the Ilaje Regional Development Council (IRDC) against the principle of rotation of offices between Awoye and Molutilehin communities on a four-year tenure arrangement.According to them, the arrangement was reneged upon when Omomowo was appointed as chairman of the IRDC after Prince Raphael Nomiye was elected into the House of Representatives. They appealed to Governor Mimiko to reverse the appointment of Omowomo because he is from Awoye where the secretary and other principal officers come from. They implored the governor to caution those who have been terrorising the people in the communities with thugs and threatening them with arrest by the police. The communities threatened to shut down the Chevron platform if necessary action was not taken by adhering to their demands of recognising Prince Jackson Nawoye as the chairman. They also cautioned against selfish leadership.
