College Baseball World Series 2015: Wednesday Winner, Scores, Bracket Results

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 18 Jun 2015

Wednesday provided just one game in the 2015 College World Series as the semifinals start to take shape. An in-state rivalry was playing out in Omaha when the University of Florida took on Miami in an elimination game. The winner would go on to play Virginia in the semifinals after the Cavaliers sent Florida to the loser's bracket with a 1-0 win.Continue below for Wednesday's result and a look at Florida's win.Gators Use the Long Ball to Blow by HurricanesFlorida flew out of the gates thanks to its power bats. Left fielder Harrison Bader led off the game with a home run off of Enrique Sosa. The shot to center field, Bader's 16th of the season, was a historic one, according to the College World Series' Twitter. It was also the longest home run registered at TD Ameritrade Park during the College World Series at 414 feet. That is, until the seventh inning.Four batters later, still in the first, center fielder Buddy Reed launched a two-run home run to put the Gators up 3-0. His long ball was just as impressive, according to the team's Twitter account. That was all for Sosa, who was pulled after getting out of the first inning. Miami called in its ace Andrew Suarezfor a rare relief appearance. He was able to get through his first three innings unscathed, but then he ran into trouble.Florida added to its lead in the fifth when Josh Tobias' infield single drove in Bader, who had doubled to lead off the inning. It was the Gators' third straight hit and Suarez was pulled. Danny Garcia was introduced to a suicide squeeze from Reed with one out.Not only did a run score, but no one was covering first base as Florida's lead swelled. Jeremy Vasquez made the Hurricans pay for not getting that out. With two outs, the freshman ripped a double down the right field line, scoring two and giving the Gators a 7-0 lead.Richie Martin made it eight with impressive opposite field power for Florida's third home run of the night. It is Martin's sixth home run of the season.Florida pitcher Alex Faedo was more than serviceable for the Gators. The freshman went five innings, allowing three hits without a run. He was pulled after giving up two consecutive hits to start the sixth.Kirby Snead came in and sent a wild pitch to the backstop to advance the runners to second and third. A grounder to shortstop looked to hold the runners, but Martin's throw sailed high and Miami plated its first two runs of the game.Home run No. 4 got back the two runs given up the half-inning before. It was just Peter Alonso's fourth home run of the season, but it was another bomb, clearing the center field fence at a record-setting 421 feet to put Florida up 10-2.After his early bobbles, Snead settled down and helped add to Faedo's gem. Florida pitching held Miami to two runs on four hits and 12 strikeouts.
