Ladoja still in Accord Party -State chairman

Published by Tribune on Thu, 16 Feb 2012

The Oyo State chairman of the Accord Party (AP), Mr Bashiru Lawal, has said a former governor of the state and governorship candidate of the party in the last general election, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, is still a member of the AP and has not defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his former party.Lawal, who made the clarification in Ibadan on Wednesday, during an exclusive interview with the Nigerian Tribune, spoke against the recent media reports that arrangements had been concluded for Ladoja's return to the PDP.The chairman admitted that although, several appeals had been coming from the high quarters in the PDP, including the presidency and from a former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Ladoja had not assured them that he would join the umbrella party.'As of today, Ladoja is in Accord and still an AP leader. It is true that the PDP leaders are making frantic efforts to bring him to the PDP. It is true he met with President Goodluck Jonathan and former President Obasanjo, two weeks ago in Abuja. But he never told them he is going back to the PDP.'Yes, it is true they are discussing. But when you are discussing, it does not mean the discussion will end up in the affirmative. It can end up on a negative note. People should wait for Ladoja himself to talk. His going back to the PDP has to be committed to prayers,' Lawal said. He likened the former governor to the rejected corner stone that is now needed to refortify the 'crumbling walls' of the PDP, adding that Ladoja did his best for the PDP as a founding member of the party who helped in building the party until those he called tenants became powerful through their godfathers and ejected him.
