ISL dominates Doregos basketball tourney

Published by Guardian on Fri, 17 Feb 2012

INTERNATIONAL School, Lagos (ISL) made it a clean sweep by wining the boys and girls titles at the eighth edition of Doregos inter-schools basketball championship.ISL defeated host school, Doregos, 22-10 in the girls' category before thrashing Ronik Comprehensive College 43-13 to emerge champion of the boys' category. The victory means so much to the Akokites as they became the first school to win three straight titles in the boys' category and their fourth title, having won the competition in 2006, 2010 and 2011, making them the most successful team in the competition's history.ISL also caused a major upset after beating Doregos 22-10 to claim the girls' title, thereby denying the host the chance of making history with three straight titles. Doregos, backed by its vociferous fans, was already dreaming of a third title but its aspiration was cut short by ISL to the dismay of its fans and other participating schools.ISL is the second school to make clean sweep of titles since Chrisland College, Idimu, won the boys and girls' categories in 2009. The most valuable players of the tourney were ISL's duo of Laide Aigbokhai (girls' category) and Chinoso Nwachukwu (boys' category). They both received a special plaque for their efforts.
