Tijani dazzles at Kings College Marathon

WHEN Sports Prefect and SS3 student of Kings College, Lagos, Azeez Tijani, participated in the last year's Ikoyi Run and came second, he accepted defeat and continued training for 2012 edition, and this time, he finished the 18-kilometer race in 33 minutes, 41 seconds.The race, which started at about 6:20a.m, took off from the college's main campus en route racecourse to Onikan Roundabout, Awolowo Road, Falomo, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Bony Camp, Moloney and back to main campus. The second boy, Kpeji Mofe Diamond, returned in 34 minutes 34 seconds, while Daniel Lima Joseph, who came third, finished in 35 minutes, 18 seconds.The Sports Master of Kings College, Shittu Yunus Sulaimon, said the race - 92nd in the series - signaled the commencement of the year 2012 inter-house athletics and sports competition, and got better every year as the new records beat the old ones in which the first boy finished under 47 minutes.'The aim is to tune up our boys in preparation for all other athletics track and field events coming up, and also to sensitize members of the community that the finals of all athletic events, which started last term, is coming on Saturday (tomorrow),' he added.He further hinted that though provision was made with the Lagos State Ambulance Services, in case of uncertainties, the race ended without a single casualty, 'they all arrived safe and sound.
