12th Loyola Jesuit College's inter-house ends tomorrow

THE 12th annual inter-house sports competition of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja, which heat began on Monday, will end tomorrow, officials of the school have disclosed.According to the school's Assistant Director of Sports, Theodore Chukwu, the students are competing in the three traditional categories - junior, intermediate and senior games. He said: 'Being a co-educational school, the girls will participate in all the categories. There are four houses in Loyola Jesuit College: Connelly, Loyola, Regis and Xavier, and Regis won the 11th annual inter-house sports.'This year's inter-house sports is designed to raise the sum of N20 million for sports facility development in the school, with Hon. Benjamin Okoko as chairman of the occasion.'Chukwu listed the events at the competition to include the 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1,500 metres, 100 and 110 metres hurdles. He added: 'The relay races are 4x100 and 4x400 metres, 4x100 invitational relay for boys and girls, high jump, long jump, triple jump, javelin, discus and shot put. The games are soccer, basketball, tennis, table tennis and badminton.'The 15-year-old school, which 60 students died in the Sosoliso plane crash of December 10, 2005, has continued to grow stronger since the disaster. It has achieved a milestone inWAEC examinations, just as it has left a strong footprint in JAMB results.It is also among the front-runners in the Cow Bell National Mathematics Competition, where it is leading in the junior category.
