FORMER Super Falcons coach, Sam Okpodu, has expressed disappointment with the Nigeria Football Federation technical committee over the engagement of German trainer, Thomas Obliers to work with the Falcons coach, Eucharia Uche.Okpodu told SuperSport.com that time is too short to the World Cup for such an exercise to be of any good to the team.Bringing somebody in at this hour is wrong. It is not going to help the team. The situation will not around in less than 60 days before they go to a major competition. If they wanted to hire the trainer, they should have done that three years ago.Besides, the choice of the German is mere face lift. I do not think it will do anything for us. It will add a bit to what the girls already know, but it will not dramatically change the outcome of what will happen at the World Cup. It is too late for that, he said.Assessing the chances of the six-time African champions at the mundial against worlds number one and host, Germany, the US based former Nigerian international said the Falcons can reduce the goal tally with adequate preparations but tough to attempt upturning the table against the Germans. Our chances are as good as any other nations that are playing at the World Cup, the bottom line is how prepared are we because that is the key.Anytime you get two teams playing on the field, they go in zero, zero, nobody knows who is going to win. The differences are the preparations you have before going into the competition. If they have better preparations, you know they are going to win the game.May be what we will be fighting now is to reduce the number of goals the Germans are going to score against us but not winning the tie.Although I feel our girls should fight to win this time, said Okpodu, who is executive director coaching, Newberry College. The Super Falcons will want to erase memories of the 8-0 bashing in an international friendly by the Germans.Nigeria will play against Germany, France and Canada at the World Cup, which begins in June.
