Security chiefs threaten to deal with electoral offenders

The security committee for the general election in Oyo State has threatened to deal ruthlessly with anyone found contravening the Electoral Act during tomorrows National Assembly election in the state.The committees chairman, Commissioner of Police Hashim Argungu, while addressing newsmen at the state Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Ibadan on Thursday disclosed that all the security chiefs had vowed to ensure that all electoral fraudsters were properly checkmated during and after the election.He assured the people of the state that the election would be free, fair and credible without any violence.According to him, all security measures have been put in place by the security committee to ensure safety of the electorate during the election.Also speaking, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Ayo Adakeja, disclosed that the printing of more of INECs tags was informed by the shortage of the materialsand that the national headquarters was aware.While noting that the contract was awarded by the commission, the REC said it did not involve the printing of sensitive materials.Reflecting on last Saturdays botched National Assembly election, he said a total number of 242, 619 and 277, 787 ballot papers for the Senate and House of Representatives respectively had been used.He said the electoral body was ready for the poll as all the anomalies detected last Saturdaybefore the poll was cancelled had been rectified, adding that all the necessary materials had arrived and that the issue of delay in distributing materials would not arise.
