Cashless economy: CBN allays fear of rural dwellers

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has urged the people living at the grass roots of the country not to fear about the introduction of cashless economy policy, saying that the policy was introduced for the well being of the citizens irrespective of their race, class, religious and literacy.Giving the assurance in Osogbo, Osun State, in his welcome address during the maiden edition of the statekeholders' forum meeting of security personnel and financial institutions in Osun State, the state Branch Controller of the Apex Bank, Mr Joseph Oyinbo Atteh, called on the people to support the bank's policy for development and growth of the economy.Mr Atteh informed the gathering that the purpose of establishing the branches of the bank across states of the federation was to serve as channels of service delivery and policy implementation down to the grass roots.His words: 'This forum is an opportunity to bring together stakeholders from the public and organized private sector in Osun State to discuss how we can work together to achieve the overall goal of the bank and also address the challenges being experienced in our efforts towards meeting your aspirations.''This stakeholders' forum is also an opportunity to build capacity by enlightening our stakeholders on the policies and activities of the bank as it affects individuals, organisations or government not only in the immediate community but also the country at large. Similarly, it is a way of receiving feedback from stakeholders on the impactimplications or otherwise of the policies of the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN).'CBN Chief also used the opportunity to solicit for area of cooperation and collaboration between the stakeholders in the economic sector of the country in order to serve as synergy and leverage on the apex bank recent policy pronouncement.'I hope we shall seize the opportunity of the meeting to enhance networking around the common goal for customer focus, effective and efficient service delivery. I therefore call on every stakeholder to join hands with the bank so that together we can provide qualitative service with the view of moving the economy forward. I urge you to appraise the bank on what your organisation can do to enable us serve you better by telling us what needs to be done rightly by us,' Atteh stated.
